Goombas /ˈɡuːmbə/, known in Japan as Kuribo, are a fictional mushroom-like species from Nintendo's Mario franchise. They first appeared in the NES video game Super Mario Bros. They are usually brown and are most commonly seen walking around aimlessly, often as an obstacle, in video games.

The Goomba itself was created with the appearance of a shiitake mushroom. Since the enemy was created toward the end of the development cycle, though, hardly any bytes remained on the cartridge. Therefore, to give the enemy moving animations, the developers reused and flipped the image, making it appear to be walking.
A Goomba's Shoe, also known as the Shoe, is a large, green-colored boot with a wind-up key sticking out of the back of it. It is worn by a Shoe Goomba. It is one of the most uncommon of all the power-ups in all of the Mario franchise, and made its first game appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3.
All the Goombas wanted was to be able to express their natural miserablism in peace, and so they chose battle and death over betraying the very essence of their being.
