Church Donates $65,000 Worth of Sneakers to Boys’ Home

Oklahoma’s Transformation Church has done more than its bit to ensure its constituents have a positive end to the year. During last Sunday’s service, Pastor Michael Todd announced that the church had bought out Tulsa, Oklahoma-based sneaker store, Silhouette USA’s, entire stock for $65,000 and would be donating it to the Tulsa Boys’ Home. Pastor Todd is a New York Times best-selling author and has around 1.3 million followers on Instagram. Following the charitable donation — which benefits both the store and the boys receiving the shoes — Todd said, “We are now giving shoes to the Tulsa Boys’ Home to be able to take exclusive shoes and give them to people that may not ever otherwise have an opportunity to own something like that.” Silhouette USA is a consignment store that resells hyped sneakers ranging from Off-White™ x Nike to adidas YEEZYs. “I was in shock, I didn’t believe him,” store owner Venita Cooper told a local TV station. “I was like, ‘Am I being punked?” In addition to s..

How Berlin’s Coolest Concept Store Is Embracing Its Kinky Side

If you swipe through the #Berlin tag on Instagram, in-between images of lakes and graffiti you’ll surely find shots of a well-dressed, canonically hot couple sipping coffee in Voo Store’s courtyard. Voo, along with its archival compact store across the street, is the go-to place for some of the world’s most highly regarded brands like Prada, Margiela, and local label GmbH. There’s also a curation of up-and-coming designers, books, magazines, and fragrances. The store is a must-visit for travelers to the city and a frequent hang for the city’s fashionable crowds. It’s now 10 years old, and weathering the Covid-19 storm with some kinky marketing plans for the future, we caught up with Thibaud Guyonnet, the store’s creative director, to see what’s in the pipeline for 2021. Could you outline what being a creative director for a concept store entails? Most of the creative direction is in the curation and in the buying; in what you want to offer to the customers. We have a kind of creati..

Watch Random International and Studio Wayne McGregor’s Digital Premiere of “No One Is an Island” Online

Random International and Studio Wayne McGregor present a new installation “No One Is an Island” in partnership with BMW i and Superblue. It premieres online worldwide this winter on the digital channels of all participating partners, accompanied by a live performance scheduled at a later date in 2021. Created jointly by the collaborative multidisciplinary studio Random International and Wayne McGregor’s dance company, “No One Is an Island” explores the interconnectedness of man and machine, its potentials for inter-subjectivization, and the grace of forms that results from their collaboration. The performance comprises an environment or system where no single part or movement happens in isolation. Every slightest change in each of its components ripples with motion throughout the entire work. About the performance, McGregor states, “This is a dialogue of interconnectedness, exploration, and surprise. We have no predetermined road map.” BMW BMW BMW BMW BMW The cent..

Only Kanye & Kylie Earned More Than the Richest Athletes in 2020

Forbes has published this year’s list of the highest-earning celebrities and the top of the pack shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Kylie Jenner and Kanye West lead the way with $590 million and $170 million earned in 2020, respectively. Jenner benefited from selling a 51 percent stake in her cosmetics firm in January and recently-revealed details of Kanye’s deal with adidas have made ’Ye a certified billionaire. What’s more interesting, though, is that the top 10 is dominated by athletes. After Jenner and Kanye, three athletes — Roger Federer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi — fill the rest of the top five. Neymar (ranked 7th) and LeBron James (ranked 9th) make it five athletes out of the top 10. Federer is the highest-earning athlete of the year for the first time, thanks to a robust portfolio of partnerships and endorsements. CR7 is the most-followed person in the world, at over 200 million on Instagram, so it stands to reason he features high up on the list. Not much sepa..

Tyler, the Creator, Bella Hadid & the Power of White Socks

Visit the original post to see all 2 images from this gallery. Who: Tyler, the Creator and Bella Hadid (second pic) What They’re Wearing: Pants cropped above the ankle, white socks, and black leather loafers. Why It Works: Trust Tyler, the Creator and Bella Hadid to come through with a reminder that sometimes all it takes to take your look to another level is a pair of white socks. Tyler did it last week, too, when he completed grocery store style — covered here — just we were too busy shoegazing at his bright yellow penny loafers at the time to pay enough attention to what else was on his feet. To be fair, anyone that follows Tyler’s style trajectory will know that he’s always been a white sock guy — wearing the sports variety in his early skater-punk Odd Future days right through to IGOR, where he would rock them with Suicokes and TEVA. Now, he’s nailing that alt prep vibe with a cropped pleated pant, dressing like the septuagenarian we all hope to be (as he told Fantastic Man in..

Cars for No One: The Bizarre Totems of Peter Cain

500 SL #1, 1992 This story appears in HIGHTech, A Magazine by Highsnobiety. Our new issue, presented by Samsung, includes exclusive pages of interviews, shoots, merch, gadgets, technical gear and more. Order a copy here. “What has Kansei engineering done for us lately?” asks a 1989 Mazda Miata advertisement among the documents of the artist Peter Cain. On the same page, above a simmering red roadster, “RESERVE FOR NEW PORSCHE PAINTINGS” is written in the artist’s hand. Around the same time, Cain began collaging promotional images of cars as studies for the paintings he is best known for today: canvases with hyperrealistic depictions of mutant automobiles, smushed into bizarre abstract forms. Prelude #, 1990 Courtesy Matthew Marks Gallery Prelude #2, 1990 Courtesy Matthew Marks Gallery According to friends of Cain, who died in his thirties in 1997, the artist knew little about cars. But to think of these paintings as the fan art of an obsessive gear head is to miss t..

Here’s Your “I Hate Black Friday but Love a Bargain” Loophole

Every year on November 27, the world falls under Black Friday’s spell. Hailed as the biggest shopping day — if not month — of the year, the hectic holiday has been known to inspire such strong bouts of discount deal FOMO that shoppers have frequently trampled each other (sometimes to death) in the race to bag the best bargain. Thanks to Covid, IRL shopping stampedes will not be taking place this year. But while your Instagram feed will be free of such frantic scenes, that doesn’t mean that the retail battlefield isn’t taking place online. Last year, Black Friday online shopping sales hit an all-time high: 93.2 million digital shoppers resulted in a sales total of $7.4 billion. This year, reports predict that number could grow by 35 to 40 percent, leading to an astronomical figure that feels very bleak when considered in relation to how much of that goes on clothing — 80 percent of which is doomed for landfills after an average of seven wears. “2020 has been an unusual year, with many..

Suicoke’s EMEA General Director Picks His 5 Favorite SS21 Styles

Japanese sandal brand Suicoke has been around for quite some time, offering an elevated take on simple slippers and sandals. Collaborations with Aimé Leon Dore, BAPE, Tyler, the Creator, and John Elliott have established Suicoke as the sneakerhead’s go-to when it comes to slip-on footwear. While most sneaker brands struggled initially to adapt to a pandemic-riddled 2020, Suicoke’s wearability indoors helped the brand’s popularity rise earlier this year. Now, with a strong FW20 collection already in stores and an SS21 collection on the way, Sucioke’s EMEA director, Enrico Pasi, shares his five favorite styles from the upcoming range. Read on for Pasi’s take on his selection and what’s new from the Japanese footwear brand. Here’s to hoping we’ll be able to wear our shoes — Suicoke or not — outdoors more often in 2021.
