The 12 Fashion Shows That Changed Men’s Fashion

Game Changers is Highsnobiety’s retrospective series highlighting the moments that changed fashion forever. From era-defining store interiors to Nike sneaker boxes and runway looks by Helmut Lang, Game Changers celebrates the things that we still reference to this day. Out of thousands of fashion shows, only a few are remembered for creating a true fashion moment. In considering this list, stylist and consultant Karlo Steel and myself have looked at collections that were pivotal in how men dress or how they view fashion to this day. We begin with Giorgio Armani, the first designer to take that seminal men’s staple — the suit — and change it forever. We end with Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton debut, which cemented the penetration of streetwear into the highest echelons of men’s fashion. We tried to encapsulate shows as they went down in the history of fashion without regard for our personal bias, as much as that is possible. It’s also one of the reasons I decided to bring on Steel, who ..

“No Pretentious Sh*t, Just Us” – How Vivendii Has Swept the Industry

Belt MILLI WELCH Experience this story and others in HIGHEnergy, a print magazine by Highsnobiety, available from retailers around the world and our online store “No pretentious shit, just us,” Jimmy Ayeni laughs when he talks about Modus Vivendii, the Tumblr blog-turned-brand he and his childhood friend Ola Badiru started 10 years ago. Latin for “the way of living,” it was a space to document their lives and perspective on culture, style and fashion from their homegrown label. “The blog was about everything we liked,” Badiru adds. “But it also led us to dig into our roots and showcase the things that influenced us and what Nigeria really means to us.” Badiru takes it back to the beginning. “We were actually born and raised in London and moved to Nigeria at one point in our lives. So it’s like we’re from both places — and the reality of it all.” Ayeni and Badiru met in Lagos after their families had moved back from England at the start of secondary school. They connected over their c..

Suicoke x Doublet’s New Collaboration Is Anything but Sheepish

Visit the original post to see all 5 images from this gallery. Footwear label Suicoke has become a go-to for slippers and sandals, with collaborations ranging from Cecilie Bahnsen and HAY, to streetwear iterations together with TOGA, Brain Dead, Dr. Martens and more. Now, the cult-favorite label has tapped Doublet for its latest partnership, and the product is without a doubt unexpected. After over a year of staying at home due to coronavirus restrictions, we’ve gotten used to putting comfort above style, and this collaboration features slippers that you can wear both inside the house as well as on the streets. The upper takes on the design of a sheep head, featuring fleece and suede paneling in both black and white/grey colorways – both complete with eyes and ears. The slip-on silhouette is also equipped with a thick rubber sole, making the shoes easier to wear. The playful Suicoke x Doublet collaboration launches on July 17 online at Suicoke’s website, as well as at select Doublet..

Men’s Couture Is a Wave, Not a Gimmick

“Demna Gvasalia Is Preparing Us To Care About Couture” was an an article I wrote back in December discussing Balenciaga’s decision to re-enter fashion’s most rarefied arena. You could argue that, like nearly all headlines, the statement had a bit too much mustard on it — there are plenty of guys who enjoy couture week as a spectacle and have done for a long time. Yet it feels like there is a discernible buzz about this edition in particular, not solely attributable to the Demna-effect, but because of how it speaks to the zeitgeist where a new generation of menswear obsessives are concerned. Outside of Balenciaga’s gender-inclusive show, we also saw men’s couture by Kim Jones at Fendi, Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino, and Giambattista Valli (Jones and Piccioli’s had already dipped their toe into the menswear pool in January). Chitose Abe at Jean Paul-Gaultier and Kerby-Jean Raymond’s Pyer Moss might not have had any menswear in their collections, but both have cultivated fervent enough..

Stylish Shades From Sunglass Hut Are the Perfect Accessory

The 649 by Persol, available at Sunglass Hut. Whether you’re treating yourself or someone else this holiday season, finding the perfect gift can be a bit tricky. One statement-making accessory that’s essential in any wardrobe is sunglasses. The variety of shapes and sizes can fit just about any style and pulls double duty with functional benefits to shield your eyes. To give you some style inspiration this holiday season, we partnered with luxury and premium eyewear retailer Sunglass Hut and three friends of Highsnobiety to select the perfect pairs. One of our favorites is the 649 from Persol — originally conceived in 1957 to protect the eyes of Turin’s tram drivers from air pollution. Persol is worn by celebrities as wide-reaching as the King of Cool himself — Steve McQueen — to countless Italian cinema legends, inc..

Church Donates $65,000 Worth of Sneakers to Boys’ Home

Oklahoma’s Transformation Church has done more than its bit to ensure its constituents have a positive end to the year. During last Sunday’s service, Pastor Michael Todd announced that the church had bought out Tulsa, Oklahoma-based sneaker store, Silhouette USA’s, entire stock for $65,000 and would be donating it to the Tulsa Boys’ Home. Pastor Todd is a New York Times best-selling author and has around 1.3 million followers on Instagram. Following the charitable donation — which benefits both the store and the boys receiving the shoes — Todd said, “We are now giving shoes to the Tulsa Boys’ Home to be able to take exclusive shoes and give them to people that may not ever otherwise have an opportunity to own something like that.” Silhouette USA is a consignment store that resells hyped sneakers ranging from Off-White™ x Nike to adidas YEEZYs. “I was in shock, I didn’t believe him,” store owner Venita Cooper told a local TV station. “I was like, ‘Am I being punked?” In addition to s..

How Berlin’s Coolest Concept Store Is Embracing Its Kinky Side

If you swipe through the #Berlin tag on Instagram, in-between images of lakes and graffiti you’ll surely find shots of a well-dressed, canonically hot couple sipping coffee in Voo Store’s courtyard. Voo, along with its archival compact store across the street, is the go-to place for some of the world’s most highly regarded brands like Prada, Margiela, and local label GmbH. There’s also a curation of up-and-coming designers, books, magazines, and fragrances. The store is a must-visit for travelers to the city and a frequent hang for the city’s fashionable crowds. It’s now 10 years old, and weathering the Covid-19 storm with some kinky marketing plans for the future, we caught up with Thibaud Guyonnet, the store’s creative director, to see what’s in the pipeline for 2021. Could you outline what being a creative director for a concept store entails? Most of the creative direction is in the curation and in the buying; in what you want to offer to the customers. We have a kind of creati..
