Marvolo Gaunt's ring already had a curious history before becoming a Horcrux. At its core was the Resurrection Stone – the Deathly Hallow once owned by Cadmus Peverell. The ring was hidden in the remains of the Gaunt family shack, and the defensive spells placed around it had to be overcome by a very powerful wizard.
The Horcrux ring was the second Horcrux destroyed in the Harry Potter film series. The unique stone features the Deathly Hallows symbol from the Tale of the Three Brothers which is made up of the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone and The Cloak of Invisibility.
6 The Ring Is Basically A Horcrux Like Voldemort, Sauron poured part of himself into an object – the One Ring. As Gandalf tells Frodo before he sets out on his quest from Bag End, “[Sauron] made that Ring himself, it is his, and he let a great part of his own former power pass into it.”
Hoping to revive his dead family members (particularly his sister Ariana Dumbledore), he disregarded the ring's status as a Horcrux and put it on. This enacted the ring's deadly curse, and it began to quickly spread through Dumbledore's body, starting with the hand on which he had put the ring.
As for the Resurrection Stone: it passed over the years from one of the Peverell brothers to the Gaunts, Voldemort's maternal family. Voldy, aka Tom Riddle, stole his Uncle Morfin's ring, which held the Resurrection Stone.

After Dumbledore returned to Hogwarts, he used Godric Gryffindor's Sword to crack the Resurrection Stone so as to destroy it as a Horcrux. While the act did destroy the ring as one of Riddle's Horcruxes, it did not stop the fatal curse. The curse gave Dumbledore's hand a withered black look, as though it had died.
When, despairing of his ability to destroy the Ring, Frodo offers it to Gandalf, the wizard immediately refuses because he recognizes the danger: "the way of the Ring to my heart is through pity, pity for weakness and the desire of strength to do good." Because the Ring is evil, the wizard knows that any attempt to
Chief among the reasons that the hobbits are more resistant to the Ring is that they do not crave power, lust after fame, or desire to rule over any others. Many of the other characters in The Lord of the Rings have their own agendas and secret desires, which the Ring is able to corrupt them through.
